Our Mother of Perpetual Help
In 1866, Pope Pius IX entrusted to the Redemptorists the original icon of Mary, Our Mother of Perpetual Help, and with it the responsibility of “making her known throughout the world.”
As a result, this image of Mary is the most recognizable image of the Mother of God in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people gather for the weekly novenas in honor of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Redemptorist churches and parishes all over the world. The original icon and shrine are housed in the Church of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Rome, Italy. Every year millions of pilgrims travel to this blessed place to pay homage to the Blessed Mother under the title, Our Mother of Perpetual Help.
