The Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help

Saturday, June 27 marks the feast day of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Celebrate this year’s feast by joining the Redemptorist on Facebook for Mass to commemorate the feast day. Mass will be live streamed via Facebook at 10am Central Time.

The Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help has provided strength and comfort to the faithful for centuries! First placed in the Church of San Matteo in Rome in 1499, the Icon was thought to be lost, but it eventually ended up in the Redemptorist Church of St. Alphonsus in Rome where in 1866 it could again be viewed publicly. In 1867, Pope Pius IX granted the image its Canonical Coronation along with its present title. The Redemptorist Congregation of priests and brothers are the only religious order currently entrusted by the Holy See to protect and propagate a Marian religious work of art. Pope Pius also charged the Redemptorists to make Our Mother of Perpetual Help through the Icon known throughout the world. Since then it has been copied and venerated in churches and homes worldwide.

The feast of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is Saturday July 27. The Redemptorist Missionaries of the Denver Province will commemorate this feast with a Mass at 10am, Central Time, at St. Michaels Parish in Chicago, IL. The Mass will be live streamed on Facebook.
