Redemptorist Deacon Huy Vu Is Ordained to the Priesthood

Fr. Vu was born in Viet Nam and grew up in Houston, Texas. Attended high school in Houston and graduated from University of Texas at Austin. After college, he worked at Baylor College of Medicine before joining the Redemptorists in 2012. He comes from a small family with one younger brother. Fr.. Vu’s father passed in 2000 due to terminal cancer. Both his brother and mother are currently living in Texas. He has been with the Redemptorists since January of 2012, having completed philosophy studies at St. John University in New York, and theology studies at Chicago Theological Union.

During the Ordination, Cardinal Tobin remarked that this day “is a day the Lord has made.” This quote from Psalm 118 is our Easter acclamation and tells us that God has planned a world and a purpose for us. Fr. Huy responded to a call to become a disciple of Christ in baptism and deepened that call with his religious profession. Now he adds the ministry of priest to his identity and takes living the gospel as a primary ministry to the Church.

We are proud to have Fr. Vu as a member of the Redemptorists’ family.
