Habemus Papam!
Cardinal Robert Francis Prevos—now Pope Leo XIV—has been elected as the 267th Bishop of Rome. Born in Chicago in 1955, Pope Leo XIV is the first Augustinian, the first Pope from the United States, and the second Roman Pontiff from the Americas, after Pope Francis.
Before his election, Prevost served as the head of the Dicastery for Bishops, overseeing the selection of new bishops. He has embraced marginalized groups and championed social issues similar to his predecessor, Pope Francis.
Pope Leo XIV greeted the world with the words “Peace be with all of you!’ from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, marking the start of his papacy.
We pray for God’s blessings upon his papacy.
