Lenten Devotions for All of Us
This Lent I’d like to talk with you about the various devotions we can again embrace for Lent. As you and I are striving always to increase our awareness of the presence of Jesus Christ, I urge you to enter whole heartedly into the adventure of Lent by recognizing Jesus in every social interaction in your daily life. Here’s some prayerful suggestions to help as we continue our walk toward Calvary:
- Way of the Cross Devotions: Your church and mine invite us to prayer each Friday in Lent. Check your parish bulletin for the time they will pray the Stations of the Cross.
- Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary: I have always found great comfort in praying the Sorrowful Mysteries, because they keep me in the spirit of my Lenten Journey. Remember: you always have a crucifix on your Rosary. Place it where you will see it constantly to remind you of the great love Jesus has for you.
- Sacred Images: In our Catholic tradition, sacred images, like the image of Perpetual Help, keep the salvation that Jesus won for us before our eyes. St Paul wrote in his letter to the Hebrews: “We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.” (12:2) Once again, our Facebook site, @PrayForUsMary, will have many Lenten posts and images.
- Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help: “You call us to enter into the mystery of redemption as we contemplate the Incarnation, Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus our Redeemer!” I especially urge you to pray this Novena! You can download a free digital copy of the novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help on our website.
