“All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had said through the prophet:
Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,

which means “God is with us.” —MT, Chapter 1

The greatest act of LOVE in the history of the world occurred today! Mary, Our Blessed Mother, has given birth to our new life in Christ Jesus! On Christmas, God gave us the perfect gift of himself, wrapped in human flesh. Through the lives of two simple holy souls, Mary and Joseph, God chose to make known his love for us.
This act of love occurred in the most humble of settings and was first witnessed by a group of poor shepherds. Think about that! What does that say about God’s love for the poor and the lowly? God flips our earthly notions upside-down, choosing to put first those without riches and without power.
Jesus spent his life advocating for the poor. We are all called to do the same. I am a Redemptorist missionary, dedicating my life to spreading the love of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Together with my fellow Redemptorists, we seek out the poor and most abandoned, wherever they may be, to share Jesus’ message of plentiful redemption.
As you pray and seek the assistance of Our Mother of Perpetual Help this Christmas season, I encourage you to try to be what she is: a Perpetual Help to all people. Like Mary, you and I are instruments of generous help and missionaries of gospel action. Mother of Perpetual Help, make us icons of good will to all we meet!
May Jesus bless your life abundantly this Christmas Day and in the New Year.

In Jesus through Mary,
